October 2016 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The school term comes to a close on Friday 21st October and I would like to thank all the children, parents and staff who have made the transition into our new schools so successful. During Parents’ evening on the 8th, 9th and 10th November you will have the opportunity to view our new facilities.

As well as welcoming 46 children into our nursery; we are also delighted that 14 children have joined our reception classes, 6 pupils have joined us in Year 1 and Year 2 and 9 pupils have joined us in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

We have enjoyed a great start to the school year. Year 5 enjoyed a great trip to Longendale in the Peak District. The classes enjoyed learning about rivers and their features. They even got the chance to go in the river and perform some experiments.

Five members of our successful debating team were invited to showcase their skills at breakfast event for supporters of the Debate Mate Charity in Spinningfields.  Once again, they demonstrated their exceptional skills in front of an audience of 100 businesses.

This week, 50 of our Year 6 children are enjoying a residential visit to Robinwood in the Lake District. We look forward to hearing their tales of adventure when they return on Friday.

Members of Plymouth Grove Parliament

The children have now elected 12 of their peers to be Members of Plymouth Grove Parliament. They are attending weekly meetings led by Miss Thompson to provide valuable feedback on how we can continue to improve the school.

New School Governor

We would like to warmly welcome Mr Ahmed Hussain onto the school’s governing body as a parent governor. All our governors are volunteers and we fully appreciate the time they provide to continue to improve our school. Details of the work of the governing body can be found on the governor section of our website.

Trainee teachers in Year 4 and Year 5

Next half term we welcome Ms Ortiz (5H) Mrs Davies (4S) and Miss Faulkner (4B). They are trainee teachers from Manchester University completing their first teaching practice at Plymouth Grove. We enjoy a highly successful partnership with Manchester University with over a quarter of our teachers being graduates from this course.

Reading Books

We have managed to recover over 200 reading books that parents have found at home. Please can I urge all parents to look carefully for any books that belong to school so that we can continue to provide the children with the choice and variety to enjoy their reading.

After School Clubs

I would like thank all staff who have given their time to provide additional opportunities for children. This term children have enjoyed after school clubs for taekwondo, robotics, homework, football, gymnastics, drama, choir and craft.

Harvest Festival

Thank you to all the parents who contributed to our Harvest Festival this year. We were overwhelmed by the number of donations and they have all been passed onto the Wood Street Mission.
